MANILA – Since the sporting events of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) are still on the wind due to the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak, the ABS-CBN S+A channel has been playing throwbacks of the classic UAAP men’s basketball and men’s and women’s volleyball matches
since yesterday.

The ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23 will replay the men’s basketball matches from Mondays to Saturdays at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., the men’s volleyball games will be aired Mondays to Fridays at 10 a.m., while the women’s volleyball matches will be at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Among the scheduled replay matches for this week would be the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball championship series between the eventual champions Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

The Tamaraws were then led by Rey Mark Belo, Roger Pogoy, Negrense Raymar Jose, and Prince Orizu, while the Tigers were spearheaded by Kevin Ferrer, Eduardo Daquioag, Marvin Lee, and Karim Abdul.

UAAP will also showcase the classic Season 78 women’s volleyball finale between arch rivals De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers and the Ateneo Lady Eagles. DLSU ended up as the champions.

The Lady Spikers were represented by Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo, Kim Fajardo, Kim Kianna Dy, Mary Joy Baron, and Dawn Macandili. The Lady Eagles, on the other hand, had Alyssa Valdez, Julia Morado, Amy Ahomiro, and Negrense Kim Gequillana.

Aside from the classic basketball and volleyball showdowns, the replays of the UAAP football games and the previous seasons’ baseball and softball finals will also be aired.

Ever since the sporting events were halted, the UAAP is looking for alternative formats for its tournaments, which are intended to begin no later than May 1 if the government declares it is safe to resume classes on April 15./PN
