Security ‘lapses’ of Aklan jail guards under probe

KALIBO Aklan – Provincial Administrator Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta said an independent investigating body will conduct an in-depth probe on the alleged security lapses of Aklan Rehabilitation Center’s (ARC) jail guards.

Ibarreta added the probe will help determine the circumstances on escaped inmates and recommend measures to avoid similar flaws of escorting inmates to court hearings.

Last week, a person deprived of liberty (PDL) escaped custody from his prison guard in Batangas as the latter was escorting him to a court hearing in Manila.

The escaped inmate, Igmedio Tropa of Agbalogo, Makato, Aklan, is facing double murder charges. He remains at large and authorities are conducting a manhunt operation against him.

Another inmate identified as JR Ruiz managed to climb a concrete wall at the back portion of the provincial jail facility in Nalook, Kalibo on Sept. 21 during a religious service.

Ruiz faces a rape charge in Libacao, Aklan. He was re-arrested in Cabayugan, Malinao, Aklan on Sept. 28.

Meanwhile, Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Nemesio Neron, chairperson of the committee on peace and order, will look into what happened at the provincial jail.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
