WV’s typhoon victims to get P17M in aid – DSWD

KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has approved the P17 million worth of assistance to the victims of typhoon “Ursula” in Western Visayas.

“Of the P17-million fund, around P13 million came from DSWD while around P3.9 million came from the counterparts of the local government units and other agencies involved,” said DSWD Region VI information officer May Rago-Castillo.  

She added from Dec. 25 to Jan. 4, around 1,260,969 individuals from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, and Capiz were affected due to the typhoon.   

Castillo said in the province of Capiz, around 482,205 individuals were given assistance; Iloilo with 270,817; Aklan (428,970); and Antique with 78,977 persons who received the government’s aid.  

As of Jan. 4, around 4,664 persons – mostly in Capiz province – are still in evacuation centers, she added./PN
