BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts leaned on endgame spurt to escape with a 72-70 victory over Living Stones International School in the Bacolod City leg of the NBTC Basketball at the Bacolod Bays Center here.
Trailing 69-70 with under a minute left on Sunday, the Thunderbolts was able to knot the count at 70-all following a split free throw from Fritz Valencia.
After missed shots from both teams, the Thunderbolts was able to take the lead at the final 11 seconds with Kent Esparagoza converting from a pass by Andy Villaver.
Despite the victory, however, Thunderbolts head coach Ronald “Yong” Despi was not pleased with his team’s performance. There were numerous turnovers that led to easy shots for their opponents.
“I think my players were too complacent against Living Stones,” said Despi. “I reminded them that we cannot take them for granted because they came from a championship in Vigan. Good thing we were able to pull this off.”
With the win, the Thunderbolts improved to a 2-0 win-loss record, while the Living Stones dropped to a 1-1 card./PN
