2 suspected nCoV cases in Capiz negative – PHO

ROXAS City – Two individuals under investigation for a possible 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD) in Capiz have been tested negative, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said.

Dr. Samuel Delfin of PHO cited the laboratory test results of the two patients under investigation sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa City.

“Copies of the official results were forwarded to the attending physician, hospital management, Local Health Office and Department of Health for proper guidance,” Delfin said, adding the results were revealed through an official statement issued on Feb. 8 and 10.

The first PUI, according to Delfin, was a 51-year-old male who manifested cough and immediately sought medical consultation upon his arrival in this province from a trip to Hong Kong and Macau from Jan. 25 to Jan. 29. He was already discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the second patient, a 43-year-old Capizeña domestic helper in Hong Kong, will be released from hospitalization following the negative results on her nCoV ARD test.

Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras, for his part, advised the residents of the province to stay calm but remain vigilant amidst the ongoing epidemiological surveillance and response activities to contain the coronavirus threat.

He urged the public to verify information or reports about the coronavirus seen on social media and short message services platforms.

The governor also said the Capizeños should refrain from posting, sending and sharing reports if they are not sourced out from the Department of Health and other credible health authorities and organizations. (With a report from PIA-CAPIZ/PN)
