SAN JOSE, Antique – The proposed sisterhood pact between this province and the city of Manila may bring many advantages, according to Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.
“The sisterhood will be beneficial to
Antiqueños who work and reside in Manila,” Cadiao stressed in an interview on
Feb. 26.
The possible sisterhood pact was discussed during a meeting with Manila Mayor
Francisco Moreno Domagoso last Feb. 17.
She added that no less than the Manila mayor himself is excited to visit this province and push through with the sisterhood. His father was from Barangay Piape 3 in Hamtic town.
According to Cadiao, there are thousands of Antiqueños in Manila who could benefit from the pact, especially in terms of processing their documents in the city government there.
“It would be easier for them to process some documents there because they would already be assisted because of the sisterhood relationship,” she said.
Manila might also be able to extend scholarship grants to the Antiqueño students who study there and seek for medical assistance its government.
In a previous interview with Vice Gov. Edgar Denosta, he revealed that the Manila mayor was proud of his Antiqueño roots. They learned during their meeting that many Antiqueños hold key positions in the city government there.
“We will work on the sisterhood pact with the help of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG),” he added.
The DILG supervises the sisterhood relationship between the two local government units based on their mutual interests in further developing their economic, social, cultural, political and historical ties.
Denosta claimed that this province’s beautiful tourism sites could be alluring to Manila residents.
“The Antique provincial government should be able to accommodate well and secure the tourists who come to the province,” he said.(With a report from PNA/PN)
