MANILA – Barangay officials who refuse to perform their duties and obligations amid the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon will face suspension, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
According to Diño, the barangay governments should lead in the distribution of food, from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to Luzon citizens. They should also utilize their resources to aid affected residents.
President Rodrigo Duterte has imposed enhanced community quarantine over entire Luzon as he tasked the barangay captain to provide the food to their constituents.
“This is a mandatory duty (for barangay captains). It does not have to have a law because the proclamation itself suggests that there is really a need for you to work with government,” Duterte said in his public address on Monday./PN
