KALIBO, Aklan – Five medical emergency responders in Kalibo, Aklan have placed themselves under self-quarantine in their respective homes after coming into contact with a patient who did not disclose her travel history in Metro Manila.
The said emergency responders brought the 51-year-old cancer patient to the Aklan provincial hospital in this capital town on March 16.
During the initial medical evaluation of the attending physician, they discovered that the patient, along with her family members, went to the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City in the past 14 days.
According to Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Kalibo civil defense officer Terence June Toriano, the patient did not reveal her travel to Metro Manila to any of the members of the emergency medical services (EMS) team who assisted her.
“The patient they brought to the hospital two days ago was identified
as a person under monitoring (PUM),” Toriano stressed.
For now, the medical responders who are under home quarantine are waiting for
clearance to return to work.
Toriano added that the community becomes at risk of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) if people would not apply preventive measures like proper hand washing and restricting themselves to activities outside their homes.
To date, this capital town has no confirmed cases of the COVID-19.(With a report from Akean Forum/PNA)
