MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has dangled a P2-million bounty to those who would be able to kill or capture a “top commander” of communist rebels.
In his Tuesday’s televised public address, Duterte said that informants will be treated as witnesses and will receive protection from the government.
“Ako ‘pag nakapatay kayo ng commander o nakapagturo kayo saan natutulog ‘yung commander o nakitulog – makitulog ‘yan sila o nakitulog – sabihin lang ninyo sa akin at ano… P2 million ako basta ‘yung top commander,” he said.
Duterte has repeatedly expressed his anger against the communist rebels and even threatened to declare martial law if they will continue their attacks.
The government and the Communist Party of the Philippines have initially declared unilateral ceasefires due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The ceasefire, however, ended last month after communist group launched attacks against government forces who were providing aid to those affected by COVID-19 crisis./PN
