
ILOILO City – A member of the Philippine Army (PA) was wounded after the 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) troopers engaged in a gun fight with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Tacayan, Tapaz, Capiz.
According to Captain Cenon Pancito III, PA’s 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, the soldier already received medical treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound on the left leg.
Pancito said the firefight lasted for about 10 minutes which began around 6:20 a.m. on July 21 after 12IB verified reports regarding the presence of rebels anew in the village. “When our personnel reached the area, they encountered around 15 rebels but the (insurgents) withdrew. I know there were wounded on the part of the enemies because of the traces of blood,” he added.
Last July 8, a 16-year-old lad was hurt following the battle between the rebels and 12IB who were sent in the village as part of the Community Support Program.
The victim was taken to the Tapaz District Hospital by members of the 12IB after he sustained a gunshot wound on the right thigh./PN
