MALAY, Aklan – Fifty more police personnel for deployment to Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan recently underwent five days of training on responding to crimes.
The training started on Oct. 1 and wrapped up on Oct. 5, according to Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong.
The specific trainings were on crime scene first response and fingerprint processing.
Most of the participants were foot patrollers tasked to respond to robbery, homicide, theft and other criminal cases.
“The five-day training taught them additional techniques in handling cases…how they should handle crowds, too, so as not to contaminate the evidence, among others,” said Malong.
Boracay reopened to tourists from other regions on Oct. 1.
The island remained peaceful so far, said Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Pablito, Malay police chief.
Prior to the deployment of the 50 cops, over 400 police personnel from the Malay police station, 2nd Aklan Mobile Force, Maritime Command, and explosive and ordnance division were moved to Boracay days before the island welcomed more tourists.
Their tasks were to maintenance peace and order and enforce health protocols – wearing of facemask and face shield, observing physical distancing, washing of hands with disinfectant or soap and water — together with the Philippine Army and Philippine Coastguard.
