ILOILO City – So far, 10,045 residents of Western Visayas have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.
The region’s active cases are currently at 3,343 with 251 new infections, according to the latest case bulletin of DOH Region 6.
Nine new deaths were also reported, raising the death toll to 334.
The region’s total number of cases (cumulative) is now at 13,822.
Of the total recoveries, Bacolod City has 3,554; Iloilo City, 2,401; Negros Occidental, 2,152; Iloilo province, 1,191; Capiz, 451; Guimaras, 133; Aklan, 106; and Antique, 57.
DOH-6 epidemiologist Dr. Jessie Glen Alonsabe said the number of recoveries is dependent on the report being submitted by local government units.
The region’s 556 new recoveries on Oct. 12 were so far the highest in a single-day, he said.
Alonsabe called on the public to continue observing minimum health standards and follow the guidelines based on the quarantine level of their locality.
“That is the only way to help us reduce cases,” he said, noting that the running average in a day is on the decline but not that fast. “We give the credit to our LGUs for implementing tight measures.”
Based on the report, the 251 new confirmed cases came from Negros Occidental with 141; Iloilo City, 59; Bacolod City, 25; Iloilo province, 19; Capiz, five; and Aklan, two.
Of the active cases, two are locally stranded individuals from Bacolod City and two are returning overseas Filipinos from Negros Occidental. The rest are local cases.
Meanwhile, of the total active cases, 76.21 percent are asymptomatic, 17.81 percent are mild cases, 4.65 percent are severe cases, and 1.25 percent still for verification. (With a report from PNA/PN)
