MANILA – Calvin Abueva will finally see action for the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup after commissioner Willie Marcial lifted his indefinite suspension.
The decision was reached following Marcial’s meeting with PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro, technical officer Mauro Bengua, Fuel Masters’ head coach Topex Robinson, team manager Paolo Bugia, and Abueva on Saturday.
According to Marcial, discussed in the said meeting were the guidelines on the lifting of Abueva’s suspension, including the laying down of fines and penalties should Abueva commit on and off-court misdemeanor in the future.
“I hope Calvin had learned a lesson from the suspension and I encouraged him to continuously persevere, change for the better and be the ‘Beast’ who champions good manners and right conduct for himself, his family, his PBA family and the viewing public who look up to him as their hero and example,” Marcial said.
Abueva, relieved and remorseful, apologized and thanked his family, his team and fans for their continued support, especially during his most trying time.
Abueva was slapped with indefinite suspension last year for his clothesline hit on TNT Tropang Giga import Terrence Jones and a verbal altercation against TNT player Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s girlfriend.
With the lifting of suspension, the PBA Rookie of the Year awardee will make his Philippine Cup debut when the Fuel Masters faces NLEX Road Warriors at the AUF Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga on Monday afternoon./PN
