MANILA – The Philippines Football League (PFL) has postponed its scheduled 2020 season opener on Sunday at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
In a statement on Saturday, the PFL said the postponement of the season opener was due to the anticipated inclement weather brought about by Tropical Depression Quinta.
“The Philippines Football League is postponing its kickoff initially scheduled for Sunday 25 October 2020 to a few days later,” it said. “Inclement weather is expected which may lead to disruption of the three matches scheduled for Matchday 1.”
Supposed Sunday matches feature Azkals Developmental League and Mendiola 1991 FC at 9 a.m., Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo and Stallion Laguna FC at 4 p.m. and United City Football Club and Maharlika Manila FC at 8 p.m.
In a related development, PFL commissioner Coco Torre said nine individuals from two football clubs tested positive for the coronavirus and have been isolated.
According to Torre, five booters and a coach were first tested positive during a swab test conducted on Oct. 21 and 16 prior to their entry to the league’s “bubble” in Seda Nuvali in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
The PFL commissioner said further tests were conducted to those who came in close contact with the six people./PN
