ILOILO – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 provided almost 20,000 food packs to local government units (LGUs) badly hit by Typhoon “Ulysses.”
On Nov. 15, DSWD-6 shipped them to Cagayan Valley and Calabarzon.
“May ara kita 20,000 family food packs nga gin-augment sa Cagayan Valley kag Calabarzon. So, ang 15,000 ara sa Cagayan Valley or sa Field Office 2 or sa Region 2, ang 5,000 ara sa Region 4A or Calabarzon,” said Luna Moscoso, division chief of DSWD-6’s Disaster Response and Management Division.
Each relief pack, according to Moscoso, contains six kilos of rice, six sachets of coffee, 14 cans of sardines and 14 cans of meatloaf enough for two days for a family with five members.
“Actually as of Nov. 14, we have 54,407 family food packs. Dira naton ginkuha ang 20,000 nga ginpadala naton sa Cagayan and Calabarzon and may raw materials man kita nga pulutson naton,” Moscoso said.
The Cagayan Valley is composed of the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.
Calabarzon region, on the other hand, hosts the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal and the highly-urbanized city of Lucena.
Some 80,098 families or 303,055 persons are still taking temporary shelter in 2,980 evacuation centers in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, V, CAR, and National Capital Region.
Moscoso assured the public that DSWD-6 has enough stockpile of family food packs for those who would be affected by calamities in the region.
The DSWD, as lead agency in the Food and Non-Food Item Cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, ensures the sufficiency of food and non-food items that can be augmented to local governments in the event of a calamity or disaster./PN
