ILOILO City – The public may soon see female police officers installed in key positions in the police force.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is eyeing to appoint policewomen as field commanders and heads of key units within the organization.
“There are police women who are capable of handling key positions. This move will erase gender discrimination,” said PRO-6 spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong.
The PRO-6, she said, welcomed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Debold Sinas’ marching orders on having more women in higher positions in the police organization.
Sinas earlier said policewomen should be given a chance to lead operational units instead of being relegated to administrative tasks in the male-dominated police force.
The country’s top cop is known for his programs empowering policewomen. Before he assumed the post of PNP chief, he appointed Colonel Angela Rejano as police chief of Malabon.
Sinas also formed an all-women police precinct at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City when he was the director of the National Capital Region Police Office.
In Iloilo province, Malong noted that five police women are currently manning municipal police stations.
They were Police Lieutenant Ma. Doreen Losara of the Badiangan Police Station; Police Lieutenant Felice Dioso of the New Lucena Police Station; Police Captain Rowena Hubero of the Barotac Nuevo police station; Police Lieutenant Rosela Vienvenida of the Batad Police Station; and Police Lieutenant Gina Fernandez of the Mina Police Station./PN
