MANILA – Three teams will take a leave of absence for a year while another will enter the league as guest team in the Philippine Superliga’s (PSL) return next year.
According to PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico, many-time champions Petron Blaze Spikers, Generika-Ayala Lifesavers and Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers had taken a one-year pandemic-related leave of absence.
Premier Volleyball League’s Petro Gazz Angels, on the other hand, would be seeing action as a guest team to join the powerhouse field composed of F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, Cignal HD Spikers, Chery Tiggo, Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, and PLDT Home Fibr Hitters.
Aside from the Angels, Juico said two more teams had already expressed their willingness to join. This will allow the league to keep its original eight-squad field.
Juico also bared the hectic 2021 season schedule of PSL, which will start with the PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup in Subic Bay from Feb. 25 to 27. The beach volleyball tournament would use a “bubble” setup.
“We would strictly use ‘bubble’ concept and we are already scouting for possible venues in the NCR (National Capital Region) and various parts of Luzon,” Juico said.
“For us, aside from serious competition, the health and safety of our players, coaches, officials, league personnel and other stakeholders are our main priorities. We would coordinate with the IATF and the LGUs to discuss how we can restart our 2021 season,” he added./PN
