ILOILO – The performance audit on municipal police chiefs across the province has started. It will determine who will stay in their present positions and who will be replaced.
Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, provincial police director, is currently busy visiting police stations in the province’s 42 towns and one component city.
“I don’t want lazy police chiefs. They are now equipped with firearms and new patrol cars so there is no reason not to perform better,” said Gorero.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. recently approved Gorero’s appointment as full-fledged Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director.
“The government is trying its best to give us what we need to maintain peace and order. My police chiefs are performing well,” Gorero said.
The IPPO chief is implementing the Unit Commander Accomplishment Report Evaluation, where the police chiefs’ performance is being evaluated in terms of the campaign against loose firearms, illegal drugs and gambling, arrest of wanted persons and other programs for crime prevention.
Gorero also reminded his men, specifically in towns vulnerable to rebel attacks, to remain vigilant.
Aside from being aggressive in crime prevention, he said police stations should be community-friendly.
“We must maintain the trust and confidence of the people,” Gorero said.
On the other hand, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, Police Regional Office 6 director, is studying some strategic areas for additional deployment of personnel.
For now, he will not reshuffle his line commanders and instead focus on crime prevention.
“Wala akong papalitan na tao. We want our police stations [become] stronger and ready to respond to whatever eventuality,” Miranda said./PN
