NABAS, Aklan – Two men face a charge for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974). They were caught engaged in an unsanctioned cock derby in Barangay Toledo.
Jun Francisco, 41, was a resident of the village while Jethro Saloña, 22, was from Barangay Nagustan.
Police recovered from them two fighting cocks and P529 cash.
Cockfighting is a popular traditional form of recreation and entertainment among Filipinos. However, under the law, “it should neither be exploited as an object of commercialism or business enterprise, nor made a tool of uncontrolled gambling.”/PN
