ILOILO – The local government unit (LGU) of Ajuy allocated P10 million to buy coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines (COVID-19) for its residents.

Mayor Jett Rojas said vaccination is the town’s top priority for 2021, adding he wants at least 5,000 residents to receive shots.

“Ginpreparahan namon ina nga kon may vaccines na, may ready kami nga kwarta ibakal,” Rojas told Panay News yesterday.

The LGU, according to Rojas, would offer COVID-19 vaccines for free to its healthcare workers, the town’s vulnerable sector like senior citizens and persons with comorbidities.
“Kon may aton pundo, mabakunahan gid ang aton pomuluyo. Makabalik na sa normal ang ila pagpangabuhi. Ang aton negosyo mabuligan man kag mabalik dayun ang ekonomiya sang aton banwa,” said Rojas.

He added: “Kon puede man kita makahimu sang agreement sa AstraZeneca nga makabakal ang banwa sang Ajuy ukon i-upod sa Iloilo provincial government nga purchase basta whichever nga makaabot dayun.”

While waiting for the vaccines, the mayor urged its residents to remain careful and vigilant, especially with the spread of the new COVID-19 variant in some countries.

He called on residents to coordinate with the local government and continuously follow health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the respiratory disease.

As of Jan. 11, Ajuy had a total of 25 confirmed COVID-19 cases – four of which were active and 21 recovered./PN
