ILOILO City – In a fit of jealousy, a man shot his live-in partner and a village watchman at a quarantine facility in Barangay Mambog, Oton, Iloilo.
Mylene Peronce, 27, and Noli Legada, 55, sustained multiple gunshot wounds, a police report showed.
The suspect was 33-year-old Melchor Amegable.
The shooting happened around 2:59 a.m. yesterday.
According to Police Staff Sergeant Johannes Sorongon, Oton police investigator, Legada was in his quarters in the second floor of the quarantine facility while Peronce – a returning overseas Filipino – was sleeping inside a room on the ground floor.
Amegable, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, barged into Legada’s room and shot him first. He then descended to the room of Peronce and attacked her, too.
Legada died instantly while Peronce was rushed to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district for treatment.
The suspect, meanwhile, fled but hours later turned himself in to the Oton municipal police station.
Peronce returned to Oton on Feb. 24. Since then, she and Amegable have always had arguments. The suspect accused her of cheating, Sorongon explained.
Amegable was detained in the lockup facility of the municipal station.
Murder and frustrated murder charges will be filed against him./PN
