ILOILO City – Waiting sheds will soon dot the stretch of this city’s famed Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue (Diversion Road) in Mandurriao district.
The city government is getting a total of 30 waiting sheds from Megaworld Corp.
Yesterday, a groundbreaking ceremony led by Mayor Jerry Treñas and Megaworld vice president Jennifer Fong was held along Diversion Road.
“Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Avenue has become the face of Iloilo City, the face of progress, and it is quite unfortunately nga nalimtan ang mga waiting sheds para diri… I am very thankful to Megaworld, you have provided shelter to the Ilonggos,” said Treñas.
The city mayor said Megaworld is that business enterprise that has provided a lot of employment and opportunities to the Ilonggos.
Meanwhile, according to City Architect Regie Gregorio, Megaworld Corp. will undertake the construction of the structures beginning May.
Sixteen sheds will be erected along the Diversion Road’s southbound while 14 in the northbound portion, particularly on the loading and unloading areas parallel to the 14-kilometer stretch.
Gregorio noted that the city participated in the design of the projects and helped in the site identification, among other issues.
Its conceptual plan was designed by renowned Ilonggo architect Paulo Alcazaren.
The design of the waiting sheds (trellis design) will be in consonance with the plants along Diversion Road.
The design will also compliment the 12 green tunnels the city is planning to construct in the area.
“Part ini sang beautification sang aton Diversion Road,” said Gregorio.
Fong, on the other hand, said the company-donated waiting sheds are proof of their company’s commitment to help the local government achieve its vision for a more progressive and beautiful Iloilo./PN
