JORDAN, Guimaras – Gov. Samuel Gumarin received his first shot of the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on April 16.

The vaccine was Sinovac Biotech’s CoronaVac of China.

A healthcare personnel of the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital administered the vaccine.

Before he was vaccinated, Gumarin’s blood pressure and temperature were checked.

Minutes after, Gumarin said did not feel any discomfort.

“Matalunsay kag wala sang side effects ako nga nabatyagan luwas lang abi sa gamay nga sakit pag-inject,” said Gumarin.

He hoped that through his example, Guimarasnons would be encouraged to also have themselves vaccinated against COVID-19.

As of yesterday, April 18, Guimaras had 13 active COVID-19 cases, data from the Department of Health Region 6 showed.

Gumarin was the second governor in Western Visayas to be vaccinated against coronavirus. The first was Antique’s Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.

All governors of Region 6 – and 21 local chief executives of areas with high COVID-19 cases – have been included in the priority list for vaccination by the National COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center based on the assessment of the Department of Health.

It was unclear, however, when governors Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo, Esteban Evan Contreras of Capiz, Florencio Miraflores of Aklan, and Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental would have themselves vaccinated.

Bacolod City’s Mayor Evelio Leonardia had himself vaccinated on April 17./PN
