ROXAS City – Mayor Ronnie Dadivas condemned the killing here of the municipal administrator of Pilar, Capiz, John Heredia.
“The people of the city of Roxas are one in strongly condemning this atrocity to the highest degree,” said Dadivas.
Two masked armed men shot Heredia to death on Sunday afternoon outside a hardware store in Barangay Lawaan here.
“We strongly condemn the attack in the same manner that we condemn any attack that seeks to violate the right to life,” Dadivas stressed.
Dadivas ordered the Roxas City police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.
As this was being written, the gunmen remained unidentified.
“We share the grief of the Heredia family, offering them our condolences and prayers for the eternal repose of the soul of their loved one,” said Dadivas.
In September 2019, Heredia’s wife Criselda, a human rights lawyer, survived an ambush after attending a court hearing.
Criselda was with her 26-year-old daughter who was driving their vehicle and client Jimmy Dordas when her car was strafed in Sigma town.
The Heredias were unhurt but the client sustained minor injuries.
The vehicle sustained nine bullets holes.
Criselda said the target of the assailants – armed men in at least one motorcycle – could either be her or her client.
She was also tailed in November 2018 when she visited the wake of slain Negros Occidental human rights lawyer Benjamin Ramos./PN
