KALIBO, Aklan – Vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in 11 towns of Aklan starts this week.
The vaccine to be used is CoronaVac of China’s Sinovac Biotech.
Six other towns started their vaccination last month yet – Buruanga, Nabas, New Washington, Kalibo, Tangalan, and Balete.
To be prioritized (A1 group) are frontliners and personnel of Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams.
Around 10,100 doses of Sinovac vaccines will be allocated for 5,050 frontliners, according to Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr.
The 11 towns are Numancia, Makato, Ibajay, Malay, Malinao, Lezo, Madalag, Banga, Libacao, Batan, and Altavas. They have been simulating the vaccination process for days as part of their preparations.
As of May 2, Aklan’s COVID-19 cases rose to 1,614 – with 1,349 having recovered and 36 dead, thereby leaving the province with 229 active cases./PN
