MANILA – Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. apologized to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday after posting an obscene phrase on Twitter demanding China to leave the Philippine waters.
Locsin’s tweet on Monday told China to “get the f– out” of the Philippine territory. His rant took place following the filing of two new diplomatic protests filed against China for its Coast Guard’s “belligerent” actions toward the Philippine Coast Guard ship patrolling in the Scarborough Shoal.
According to Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, the DFA secretary informed him that an apology was issued to China for the social media rant.
He also clarified that Locsin’s statement was his thoughts and not an official policy of the country against China.
“Ang mensahe ng Presidente, sa larangan ng diplomasya, wala pong lugar ang pagmumura. At ang sabi ng Presidente sa lahat ng miyembro ng gabinete, siya lang ang pwedeng magmura,” said Roque./PN
