JORDAN, Guimaras – The municipal government has limited the operational hours of establishments here – from 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. only – in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
This will be observed up to May 31.
Mayor Ruben Corpuz’s Executive Order No. 37 explained why this is needed: “As of May 24, there were 31 active COVID-19 positive cases…”
The order included the public market, sari-sari stores and carinderias, too, in the town’s 14 barangays but exempted funeral parlors, pharmacies, hospitals and other medical-related establishments.
As of Monday night, May 24, Jordan’s cumulative COVID-19 cases stood at 162 – a total of 125 recovered while five died.
The deaths were in the villages of San Miguel (two), Rizal (two) and Maravilla (one).
Meanwhile, the remaining 32 active cases were in the following barangays:
* San Miguel – 10
* Bugnay – 12
* Sta. Teresa – six
* Hoskyn – one
* Morobuan – one
* Poblacion – one
* Sinapsapan – one
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
Most people (about 80 percent) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness./PN
