BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental barred non-essential travelers into the province and city of Iloilo yesterday morning.
Captain Ludovico Librilla, PCG-Negros Occidental commander, said he coordinated with his counterpart in Iloilo and it was affirmed that they would only allow essential travelers until at least June 18.
The city and province of Iloilo are regulating the entry inbound travelers to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Only Authorized Persons Outside Residence, returning residents, returning overseas Filipino workers, emergency cases and essential travelers are allowed in the city and province.
Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas earlier sought for an extension of the travel suspension between the city and Negros Occidental due to the continued spike in COVID-19 cases there.
However, since Treñas’ request has not yet been approved either by the Regional or National Inter-Agency Task Force, trips to Iloilo City continued normally since June 1, with a temporary suspension issued by the PCG between Tuesday and Wednesday as parts of Iloilo and Negros Occidental were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Storm “Dante”./PN
