BACOLOD City – Between Jan. 1 to May 31 this year, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) apprehended 19,321 violators of minimum health protocols against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Lieutenant Colonel Lester Leada, chief of BCPO’s Operations Management Unit, said most of those apprehended (6,536) were not wearing facemask or not wearing them properly.
Others were caught violating the curfew, not wearing face shield or not observing social distancing.
Leada said the BCPO is intensifying the implementation of City Ordinance (CO) No. 926, series of 2020, which requires the use of facemasks and shields and the observance of social distancing in public settings.
Violators are penalized with either a P200 fine or eight hours of community service.
For non-residents of the city, violators are made to pay a P300 fine.
Meanwhile, curfew hours under CO No. 934 may be adjusted at any time within the duration of the modified general community quarantine./PN
