ILOILO – The municipality of Santa Barbara recorded Wednesday its highest single-day cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – 32 new infections and one death.
According to the Provincial Health Office (PHO), the town was the number one local government unit (LGU) in this province with the most number of new infections on June 9.
On June 8, the town also recorded its highest single-day deaths at four. They were the following:
* eight-year-old female
* 68-year-old male
* 83-year-old female
* 55-year-old male
As of June 9, Santa Barbara had 399 total confirmed COVID cases – 118 active, 226 recovered and 15 deaths.
The town ranked fourth among LGUs in the province for both with the highest total confirmed cases and number of deaths.
“Active ang contact tracing sang aton personnel from MHO (Municipal Health Office),” said Mayor Rema Somo in an interview with Panay News. “Ang naga-positive naton nga mga pumoluyo gina-contact trace dayun sang MHO para mapunggan ang paglapta sang virus.”
One factor was also the infections recently recorded in the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office in the town’s Barangay Bolong Oeste, Somo said.
Contact tracing is underway.
Affected households were also given food packs.
Somo also reminded Santa Barbaranhons to follow minimum public health standards like wearing of facemask and face shield, social distancing and frequent hand washing.
Going outdoors is also prohibited unless necessary./PN
