ILOILO – The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) spearheaded the 19th Depositor Protection and Awareness Week (DPAW) with the theme, “Maniguro, Mag-impok, Mag-deposito sa Bangko.”
DPAW is observed every June 16 to 22 of the year based on Proclamation No. 358 issued in 2003, which aims to strengthen the protection of small, unsophisticated depositors and complement the government’s thrust for sustained economic growth and development.
This year’s celebration promotes the consistent habits of saving and depositing in banks to secure one’s future.
“It is important for Filipinos to secure their hard-earned money and ensure peace of mind. The best way to do this is to save in banks,” according to PDIC president and chief executive officer Roberto Tan.
“Depositing in banks protects their money from risks of theft, fire, or other fortuitous events. More importantly, bank deposits are insured by the PDIC up to P500,000 per depositor,” he added.
During the weeklong celebration, PDIC rolled out its “Maniguro, Mag-bangko” nationwide digital and multimedia campaign through television, radio, print, and social media to highlight the values of responsible banking and making informed financial decisions, especially in this time of the pandemic.
The campaign includes radio and television infomercials, audio-visual presentations, and social media materials designed to help the public better understand the PDIC’s mandates and its role in promoting a financially literate nation.
The 19th DPAW will end on June 22 on PDIC’s 58th anniversary.(PDIC/PN)
