Power supply woes in Visayas, Mindanao extend to Sept.

THE VISAYAS and Mindanao grids entered September with new power alerts, threatening possible brownouts for consumers on Tuesday.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines declared a red alert for seven hours over the Visayas, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. yesterday.

The grid was also on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Mindanao, which also supplies power to the Visayas, is facing a power strain and was under a yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A yellow alert indicates that available power reserves are thinning, meaning any unexpected plant outage could trigger service interruptions. A red alert indicates that the supply cannot meet the demand, raising the risk of rotational brownouts unless we manage consumption effectively. (Lisbet K. Esmael © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
