ILOILO City – Parents need not shell out for their kids’ learning materials, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) in Region 6.
Preparations are ongoing for school year 2021-2022 which opens on Sept. 13.
“Free lahat ang learning materials,” said Dr. Ramir Barberan Uytico, director of DepEd-6.
DepEd is funding the learning materials on top of the support they are getting from the private sector and other stakeholders, Uytico told Panay News.
The learning materials are still in printed form. The education department is also set to conduct an inventory of the materials which could still be used for the new school year.
With this, according to Uytico, schools division superintendents (SDSs) would have an idea how many learning materials should be printed anew to augment the “recyclable” ones.
The inventory could start in August, Uytico said.
The printed self-learning modules (SLMs) and learning activity sheets (LAS) shall also be supported by varied learning strategies, Uytico stressed.
The regional director also said he already presented the Basic Education – Learning Continuity Plan for School Year 2021-2022 of DepEd-6 to their central office.
‘BRIGADA ESKWELA’
Uytico confirmed there’s a Brigada Eskwela but they have yet to set the date.
He said this school year’s Brigada Eskwela would focus on the basic education learning continuity plan (BE-LCP).
The national government earlier approved the BE-LCP to ensure that learning gains ground among pupils and students despite the absence of face-to-face classes due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the past years, parents and learners joined the Brigada Eskwela through massive school cleanup and other activities.
At the height of the pandemic last year, parents and stakeholders opted to donate bond papers, among other supplies.
Also, DepEd-6 has yet to determine the number of expected learners for school year 2021-2022. Uytico said they are still gathering the forms from the previous school year.
On July 16, DepEd announced that President Rodrigo Duterte approved Sept. 13 as the opening date of school year 2021-2022.
