Bacolod still free from ‘Delta’

BACOLOD City – There’s still no Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), in this city, the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6 clarified after drawing public confusion in a radio interview.

A case of the Delta variant recently detected in the region was tagged to a certain Sitio Bacolod in a town in Iloilo province, according to Dr. Daphynie Teorima, spokesperson of the DOH-6.

She said they may have “mixed up” their records.

Ang aton erratum nga ang presence sang Delta variant ang indi sa Bacolod City kundi counted sa Iloilo province,” Teorima said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Edwin Miraflor, in-charge of the City Health Office, affirmed that there’s no Delta variant here yet, only the Alpha, Beta and Theta (P.3) variants. He, however, did not disclose how many cases each.

The Alpha variant was initially detected in the United Kingdom while Beta in South Africa.

The Theta, on the other hand, was detected in the Philippines in March 2021. It has been classified recently by the World Health Organization as a variant under “alert for further monitoring” because of its decreased and sporadic detection.

The Alpha, Beta and Delta variants are classified as “variants of concerns” due to their increased transmissibility./PN
