Ilonggo talents to rock ‘YouVote,’ champion responsible voter’s ed in free virtual concert

YOUVOTE, a youth-led endeavor that aims to produce educated voters who will make informed choices in the 2022 national and local elections, is slated to kick off its series of events ahead of the polls next year with a virtual concert streamed for free via the official YouVote Facebook page.

The Global Shapers Community Iloilo Hub will officially launch its YouVote Project: A Voters’ Registration and Education Campaign in Iloilo through a virtual concert featuring more than 25 local artists from the Iloilo Champions of Music Network this Aug. 8, 2021, seven in the evening, live via the YouVote Facebook Page.

“The virtual concert is an opportunity not only to influence the younger generation to register for the 2022 elections but also to promote our local artists and influencers who have been greatly affected during the pandemic. I believe that to be able to effectively create an impact in peoples’ lives is to find creative ways to first engage them, not because they see it as an obligation but because they realized and felt the need. As a mental health advocate, I cannot emphasize enough how music has its way of moving people and touching lives,” said John Michael Suelo, the project leader of YouVote.

“As a Filipino artist, it’s imperative that our art and passion will convince you to vote but, more importantly, remind you all of what our country needs. May all the artists’ arts and melodies ventilate the voice of the Philippines to make us all quality pro-Filipino voters,” according to LWKI’s Kent Espaltero, singer and founder of the iCx Network.

Espaltero is joined by a diverse lineup of fresh Ilonggo talents set to showcase the city’s homegrown music scene, all advocating for the election of competent public officials in the upcoming 2020 polls.

Also set to perform this Sunday are Trisha Sianson, Blue Firefly featuring Michael Lagrana, JM Avelino, Noy Cajilig, and KV Azucena; Moira Tan, CJ Lorca, and Patricia; Josh and Shaenree Seguir; Dexter Biarneza, James Calico, and Kevin Escopel; Trisha Anne Cabanete, Katrina Segovia, and Tenny Garciano; Cassey Alcayaga, Paula Cadic, and Stephanie Mijares; Ashley Del Pilar, the iCx Network Girls, and the Loki and iCx Network Boys.

The project is set to conduct a series of other events throughout the year, including satellite registrations, virtual roadshows, online forums on voters’ education, and virtual town hall debates. YouVote: A Voters’ Registration and Education Campaign is an initiative of the Global Shapers Iloilo Hub, aiming to shape a better life for Ilonggos and Filipino people.

“Your vote is your voice and your contribution to shaping your community. You deserve to be heard. Speak up, make a choice and take part in the election,” said Ennis Albert Pareja, curator of Global Shapers Iloilo Hub.

After the launching, the YouVote project will continue to encourage eligible voters to register through convenient and accessible satellite registrations, empowering the voters to participate in the electoral process through awareness campaigns and conversation starters to freely and rationally discuss their opinions on socio-political issues. The effort also aims to educate the voters of their right to suffrage and role in nation-building through voters’ education training and encourage registered voters to make informed choices on the day of the election.

The online festivity is co-presented by Global Shapers Community-Iloilo Hub; Youth First Initiative Philippines, Inc.; Iloilo Champions of Music Network; SK Federation of Iloilo City; Panay News; RMN Iloilo; and PHINMA University of Iloilo.
