SIMPLICITY took center stage at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27, as lawmakers and other government officials arrived at the Batasang Pambansa in understated Filipiniana attire.
In line with the administration’s call for a “simple” and “dignified” ceremony, attendees were encouraged to wear modest interpretations of the traditional Filipino dress. The usual red carpet was also omitted, reinforcing the toned-down atmosphere of this year’s event.
Despite the more restrained approach, Filipino designers remained in the spotlight, showcasing elegant creations that ranged from classic Filipiniana ensembles to modern silhouettes, tailored separates, and vibrant contemporary designs.
