ILOILO City – The first day of the barangay-based and house-to-house coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination of the city government successfully inoculated 4,448 residents.
Of these vaccinees, 4,377 had their first dose while 71 got their second dose.
The city’s vaccination teams were deployed in 10 barangays. The vaccination sites were mostly barangay gyms but some teams went house-to-house to inoculate bedridden senior citizens or those with comorbidities.
This scheme will run for the entire week.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, with the rising number of coronavirus cases and the presence of the more contagious “Delta” variant of the virus causing COVID-19, it is vital to vaccinate more residents and achieve herd immunity.
Here are the barangays with their corresponding vaccine recipients:
* Calaparan and Santo Niño Norte, Arevalo – a total of 731 residents (731 for first dose and 12 second dose)
* Boulevard, Molo – 440 (439 first dose, one second dose)
* Baldoza, La Paz – 581 (570 first dose and 11 second dose)
* Bakhaw, Mandurriao – 321 (four persons second dose)
* Bo. Obrero, Lapuz – 379 (375 first dose, four second dose)
* San Isidro, Jaro – 424 (414 first dose, 10 second dose)
* Balabago, Jaro – 302 (299 first dose, 3 second dose)
* Veterans Village, City Proper – 507 (479 first dose, 10 second dose)
* Rizal Estanzuela, City Proper – 763 (747 first dose, 16 second dose)
Dr. Bea Camille Natalaray, medical officer at the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6, commended local government units that practice barangay-based and house-to-house vaccination but reminded them to ensure that minimum public health standards are observed.
There should also be emergency teams on standby to attend to vaccinees who may develop adverse reactions after inoculation./PN
