SAN JOSE, Antique – Fifty senior citizens in the municipality of Culasi, Antique received their annual social pension from the provincial government during the distribution on Sept. 8.
Aileen Magbanua, in-charge of the Kabalaka Program of the provincial government, the recipients were between 85 to 99 years old.
“The social pension is being given to seniors regardless of their social status so long as they belong to the age bracket,” she said.
They only needed to present their senior citizen identification card as proof of their age, Magbanua added.
Of the recipients, 36 seniors aged 85 to 89 received P2,000 each; 10 between 90 to 94 years old got P3,000 each, and four others aged 95 to 99 were given P5,000 each.
The Kabalaka Program started in 2017 to provide the elderly with financial assistance to buy basic needs such as food, milk, and medicines.
Under the Kabalaka program, those 100 years old and above will receive P30,000 each.
During the distribution, four senior citizens availed themselves of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) jabs.
“The distribution of the social pension was timed with the COVID-19 vaccination to encourage more seniors to avail of the Covid-19 inoculation,” she said.
The inoculation was conducted by the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) and the Municipal Health Office.
Magbanua added that those who had been vaccinated were given a bucket of bread as an incentive. (PNA)
