Sibunag mayor contracts COVID; municipal hall shuts down

SIBUNAG, Guimaras – Mayor Annabelle Samaniego is under home quarantine. She tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

She decided to take a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test last week after exhibiting flu-like symptoms. The result came out on Sept. 16.

Samaniego was unsure where she got the virus.

The Rural Health Unit (RHU) launched contact tracing.

Several employees of the municipal government also contracted COVID-19 last week, resulting to the temporary closure of the town hall (from Sept. 17 to 22).

Only the RHU and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) are open.

The town hall would reopen on Sept. 23 after he has been disinfected.

Samaniego urged the public to continue observing the health protocols – wearing of facemask and face shield, social distancing and proper hand washing / disinfection.

As of Sept. 18, Sibunag had 69 active COVID-19 cases. These were in the barangays of Dasal (17), Maabay (13), Sabang (11), Sebaste (seven), Alegria (six), Bubog (three), Millan (three), Oracon (two), Ravina (two), San Isidro (two), Ayangan (one), Oracon Norte (one), and Concordia (one)./PN
