ILOILO City – If you want your bets to win in the May 2022 elections, you must register with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) so you could vote.
Voters’ registration resumes today until the end of the month.
According to Atty. Wilfred Jay Balisado, director of Comelec Region 6, would-be voters have already seen the aspirants for the upcoming elections based on the recently-concluded filing of certificates of candidacy.
“That should be a motivating factor sa mga botante,” Balisado told Panay News.
All municipal and city elections offices are open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., no noontime break.
The venue of voters’ registration is the municipal or city election office, although some towns sought larger venues to accommodate more registrants.
For this city, the voters’ registration venue will still be the malls to accommodate 1,000 to 1,200 applicants per day.
“They need to be comfortable and maka-observe talaga ng social distancing and health protocols,” said Balisado.
Comelec-6 reiterated that their priorities are the new or first-time voters.
Balisado, however, clarified that this does not mean Comelec will not accept other applications such as correction of entry and change of name.
Comelec-6, meanwhile, discourages change of residence transactions, especially if it is only from one barangay to another within the municipality or city.
Balisado urged registrants to wear facemasks and face shields, bring ball pens and identification cards, and observe the minimum public health standards./PN
