Aklan police director retires after 30 years in service

KALIBO, Aklan – After over 30 years in law enforcement service, Aklan police director Colonel Ramir Perlito Paradero Perlas has retired.

Perlas was assigned to head the Aklan Police Provincial Office on Jan. 20, 2021. He led it for around 11 months.

Retirement honors were held for Perlas on Dec. 3 at Camp Pastor Martelino in New Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan.

Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director, Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, graced the occasion.

“I have mixed emotions. Sadness and joy. Sadness for this will be my last official talk as Aklan police director, and joy because I made it to the end of my police career,” said Perlas.

He looked forward to spending more time with his family.

“Siguro panahon na upang makabawi naman ako sa pamilya ko,” he said.

From the police service, Perlas said, he learned the value of “having a positive and enthusiastic group of co-workers…I have witnessed colleagues who tirelessly gave time and resources for the enhancement of the image and credibility of the police organization.”

Perlas lauded the men and women of the Aklan police office for their dedicated service.

“I want to acknowledge everyone for making my term in Aklan dynamic and memorable. It only takes a few words and encouragement to make our personnel commit to their jobs on a daily basis, even if the situation was tough. I thank you for your unwavering support, goodwill to perform your sworn duties in the name of public service despite the difficulties,” Perlas said.

Perlas was originally a secondary school teacher at Boracay National High School in Malay, Aklan. He obtained his Education degree from Northwestern Visayan Colleges in Kalibo, Aklan in 1988.

He eventually shifted career and studied at the Philippine National Police Academy. He belonged to Class 1993 (Tagapaglunsad).

In 2002, he served as a United Nations peacekeeper in Timor-Lieste (East Timor).

He also worked with the Regional Mobile Group in Negros Occidental and the police stations of Batan, Aklan and Molo, Iloilo City.

Perlas eventually became the police provincial director of Dinagat Islands and Agusan del Sur and chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Police Regional Office – Caraga Administrative Region before being assigned to Aklan./PN
