ILOILO City – A pregnant woman and a tricycle driver died while three others were hospitalized in a vehicular accident yesterday in Barangay Capuling, Dueñas, Iloilo.
The fatalities were Laurence Hautea, 33, and seven-month pregnant Mel Pama, 36, both residents of the town’s Barangay Monpon.
The injured passengers were Pama’s husband, Jonathan, 38; their nephew, Kent Jude Pama, 21; and Darren Hautea, 33.
According to the police, the victims were riding a tricycle around 6 a.m. when hit by a pick-up driven by 45-year-old Arvin Zerrudo, a village councilman of Barangay San Jose, Jaro district.
Zerrudo was bound for Roxas City. He reportedly overtook a truck and crashed against the tricycle running the opposite direction.
Zerrudo was detained at the Dueñas police station, facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide and multiple physical injuries./PN
