Bacolod SP to look into alleged ‘hepatitis outbreak’

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on health will conduct a hearing on the complaint of 60 dialysis patients who alleged they were infected with hepatitis C virus in a private hospital here.

The name of the hospital is being withheld by this paper pending its comment.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, committee chairperson, said the hearing would be held on Dec. 14. They invited the officials of the hospital.

According to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, his office received the complaint dated Dec. 6 signed by one Alma Desabille, who represented on behalf of other patients.

“It has been about five months since the start of the outbreak, and since then we tried to reach out to the hospital administration to voice out our concern, but our voice seemingly fell on deaf ears,” read part of the letter.

The patients are also asking the hospital to provide financial assistance “commensurate to the physical, mental and financial suffering they have to endure.”

The names of the reported infected patients were attached to the complaint letter.

Familiaran said the complaint letter was presented during their regular session on Wednesday./PN
