The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) yesterday said it has completed the construction of 772 infrastructure projects in Northern Mindanao worth over P14 billion last year.
In a statement, Zenaida Tan, DPWH Region 10 director, said the Northern Mindanao regional office and its 12 district engineering offices finished the construction, maintenance, improvement and widening of 255.6 kilometers of national roads costing P8.93 billion, 16.79 km. of national bridges amounting to P1.91 billion, and construction of 18 flood control projects for P712 million.
Also completed were a total of 607 local projects costing P2.81 billion, including 85 local road projects, 49 water supply systems, six Philippine National Police buildings, 435 multi-purpose buildings, 14 tourism road projects, and nine roads to Trades, Industries and Economic Zones.
“We laud the accomplished projects delivered by DPWH Regional Office 10 amid the pandemic. These infrastructure projects allow Northern Mindanao to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic,” said Roger Mercado, DPWH secretary.
Rafael Yabut, DPWH senior undersecretary, said some of the remarkable projects accomplished by DPWH Region 10 are the Cagayan de Oro Civic Convention Center that is designed to hold various events and will generate jobs for the locals; Puntian-Arakan Bypass Road that will link Regions 10, 11 and 12; and the Layawan Flood Control Structure that saves communities from the hazards of floods.
“For the remaining months under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, we aim to accomplish more high-impact projects to focus on more inclusive economic growth,” said Mercado.
Meanwhile, the construction of Panguil Bay Bridge connecting Tubod, Lanao del Norte and Tangub City, Misamis Occidental is ongoing.
To date, DPWH said the design and build for the 3.169-km. bridge project is progressing at a brisk pace, having attained a weighted average of 41.83 percent.
Towards the end of 2022, DPWH targets to reach 80.47 percent project accomplishment with the completed approach bridge from Abutment 1 to Pier 10 at Tangub side, main bridge pylon 1 and 2, and Pier 23 to Abutment 2 at Tubod side.
Project completion will be achieved by December 2023 with full year activities centered on the approach bridge from Pier 10 to 17, Tangub side; and Pier 18 to 23, Tubod side; 320 meters main bridge; and the approach roads.
The construction of a high-level bridge across Panguil Bay in Northern Mindanao will end the decades-long wait for better connectivity between Tubod and Tangub City. (Malaya Business Insights News)
