ANTIQUE – The province of Antique listed 77 dengue cases with one death from January 1, 2022, to March 26, 2022.
This is 58 percent lower when compared to the same period last year which reached 183 dengue cases.
Here is the breakdown of 77 dengue cases with one death per town: Tibiao (one), Sibalom (nine), Hamtic (10), San Jose (13), Sebaste (one), Bugasong (23 with one death), Barbaza (one). ), Anini-y (11), San Remigio (one), Laua-an (four), and Patnongon (three).
The towns of Culasi, Tobias Fornier, Pandan, Libertad, Caluya and Belison did not have any dengue cases.
The age range of dengue cases is five months to 73 years old.
Last week, Dr. Bea Camille Natalaray, who serves as medical officer IV and medical coordinator for the dengue program of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development advised that the Local Government Unit (LGU) will continue to practice guidelines on the implementation of enhanced 4S strategies against dengue.
The Enhanced 4-S campaign stands for Search and destroys mosquito-breeding sites; secure Self-protection measures like wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellent; Seek early consultation, and Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where an increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.
“We encourage areas to practice our dengue prevention and control strategies,” Natalaray added.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection causing a severe flu-like illness that could sometimes be fatal. Its carriers are day-biting mosquitoes (Aedes albpictus and Aedes aegypti) that live and breed in clean, stagnant water.
According to the World Health Organization, individuals with suspect dengue will have a high fever (40 degrees centigrade) accompanied by two of the following symptoms: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea/vomiting, swollen glands, muscle, and joint pains, and rashes.
For severe dengue, the warning signs to look out for are: severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, bleeding gums, blood in vomit, fatigue, and restlessness./PN
