DREAM until you make it. The moment you stop dreaming is the day you your dreams remain just that – dreams.
Adelmar Javier Jr. is a candidate for Cum Laude and taking up Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service at the University of San Agustin Iloilo. An active student leader, a consistent dean’s lister, a singer, a friend, a son. A dreamer.
His friends call him Adie, and just like the others, he loves reading manga, watching anime and playing video games. He usually stays in the university library to read books and take home lessons from his course subjects.
Asked why he works hard in school, Javier says it is primarily for him to retain his university scholarship and to graduate with Latin Honors. This is his way of showing appreciation for his family, especially his parents, for their endless support.
Javier dreams of being a diplomat. To travel across countries, experience their culture, and learn from them. His dedication to become a bridge between nations, peoples and communities is evident through his community engagements, and being only days away from graduating as a Cum Laude.
To graduate with flying colors in college is a huge success. And just like the others, he has his fair share of struggles.
Being able to lead the entire student body during the pandemic was a great achievement, he says.
He also learned to become flexible and innovative in every turn. He even discovered that Tiktok could be a good platform to promote fashion and that virtual pageants are exciting, too!
This hardworking and accomplished student manages his time to achieve academic excellence, co-curricular activities and obligations at home. So he won’t miss any, he lists them down and worn on them one by one.
Javier has been selected as one of the awardees of The Outstanding Students of Iloilo Awards (TOSIA) representing the Augustinian community.
This July 9, 2022, the University of San Agustin will conduct a “face-to-face” graduation.
‘’I’m excited to open a new chapter in my life but also nostalgic about all the memories I made in college,” says Javier.
After graduation, Javier plans to go job-hunting, or pursue master’s degree in education or entering law school.
He has this advice to students: “Have a growth mindset. Know when to rest, and take heart.”
Indeed, a dream will remain a dream when you don’t do anything about it. So when you dream, work for it./PN
