ILOILO City – Today, Jaro Archbishop Emeritus Angel Lagdameo will be buried at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral.
The Archdiocese of Jaro urged the faithful to attend the funeral mass but follow strictly the minimum public health standards (wearing of facemask, physical distancing.
The funeral mass begins at 9 a.m. Archbishop Jose Romeo Lazo will officiate it.
After the mass, Lagdameo’s urn will be interred in a columbarium at the cathedral.
Lagdameo died on July 8. He was 81.
In addition to receiving sacraments, Ilonggos will remember Lagdameo for the holding of the third diocesan synod in 2005, over 30 years since it was last held.
A former president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, he was confined for over a week at St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo.
According to Reverend Father Angelo Colada, director of the Archdiocese of Jaro’s Social Communications Office, Lagdameo, a native of Quezon province, had been in and out of the hospital in the past few months.
Lagdameo served as archbishop of Jaro for 18 years from 2000 until 2018. He was succeeded by Archbishop Lazo.
Lagdameo was born on Aug. 2, 1940, in Lucban, Quezon. He was ordained a priest on Dec. 19, 1964.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Oreto and Auxiliary Bishop of Cebu on June 19, 1980.
He was ordained bishop on Aug. 12, 1980. On Jan. 31, 1986, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Dumaguete and succeeded on May 30, 1989. He was installed as second Bishop of Dumaguete on August 2, 1989.
On March 11, 2000 he was appointed Archbishop of Jaro. His installation took place on May 9, 2000./PN
