BACOLOD City – Fire gutted a nine-room boardinghouse around 5 a.m. yesterday in Zone 5, Barangay Sambag, Jaro district.
Twelve boarders were displaced.
The fire was believed to have started in the sari-sari store on the ground floor of the boardinghouse made of light materials. It spread rapidly.
Punong Barangay Romeo Jagorin said explosions were heard before and during the fire.
The boardinghouse owner was identified as Agnes Hugo, 60. Son Fil Angelo Hugo, 31, is running the business.
Responding firefighters of the Bureau of Fire Protection declared a fire-out around 5:30 a.m.
Property damage was estimated to have reached P500,000.
