La Carlota City logs most dengue cases in NegOcc

BACOLOD City – La Carlota City recorded the highest number of dengue cases among the 31 local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental.

As of Oct. 29, La Carlota City logged 392 cases with one death, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

Other LGUs that recorded triple digit dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Oct. 29 this year were the following:

* Himamaylan City – 377

* Kabankalan City – 363

* Bago City – 342

* San Carlos City – 325

* Cadiz City – 292  

* Hinigaran – 268

* Binalbagan – 246

* Sagay City – 211

* Pontevedra – 202

* Talisay City – 176

* Cauayan – 157

* Calatrava – 146

* Silay City – 141

* Isabela – 128

* Murcia – 112

Meanwhile, the town of Candoni recorded the fewest cases.

As of Oct. 29, Negros Occidental has a total of 4,964 dengue cases, of which 45 were new cases and 29 deaths.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection causing a severe flu-like illness that could sometimes be fatal. Its carriers are day-biting mosquitoes (Aedes albpictus and Aedes aegypti) that live and breed and clean, stagnant water. /PN
