Iloilo prov’l gov’t to create team for SIM card registration

ILOILO – The provincial government is set to create a committee or taskforce to aid in the swift implementation of Republic Act (RA) 11934, or the SIM Registration Act.

According to provincial administrator, Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, the provincial government is already in the planning stage, particularly on who will be the committee head and members.

“We are formulating strategies,” Ventilacion told Panay News in an exclusive interview.

Ventilacion said the committee’s main function is yet to be established but it would definitely take part in the information dissemination in 42 towns and one component city, Passi, about the SIM card registration.

“”Ginapanawagan naton sa mga pumoluyo nga nag-umpisa na ang aton obligasyon sa idalom sining laye nga magpa-register sang aton nga numbers,” said Ventilacion.

The proposed formation of the SIM card registration team follows a request from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for local government units (LGUs) to assist the national government in its information campaign regarding the implementation of RA 11934.

DILG secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. specifically asked for local chief executives at the barangay level to assist in the registration, especially in areas where there is limited internet connection.

“As we seek to ensure public safety even in the online space, I encourage LGUs to exert all efforts to promote responsible use of SIM cards, educate their stakeholders on the benefits of mandatory SIM card registration, and guide them through the whole registration process,” Abalos said./PN
